You may have read this story as you read about Moses.  This story takes place soon after God’s people were rescued from Egypt by crossing the Red Sea on dry land.  The people are in the dessert and since there are so many of them they need Moses leadership.

Moses giving advice to everyone, and we are talking thousands of people.  His Father-in-Law, named Jethro, comes to visit and notices what is happening.  He tells Moses that he cannot continue like that or he will wear himself out.

Moses was trying to do everything himself.  So Jethro suggests that he teach the law to trustworthy people and let them handle most of the problems.  Then, if they have a really difficult problem they can come to Moses.

He puts people in groups of thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.  This gives a level of leadership that allows people to get their answers, but also allows the workload to be spread out.

In business, we have to be careful about doing all the work ourselves.  We must learn to distribute the task to capable leaders.  In business, we are building leaders.  Look at the process that Jethro suggests.

Jethro tells Moses to select people who are trustworthy and who hate dishonest gain.  He tells Moses to train these people.  Then, he tells him to break up his organization into smaller groups and put capable people in charge.

This is the perfect example for a business organization.  We should be training leaders and putting them in charge.  We only allow them to be in charge of the amount of people they can handle because we have taken time to get to know their capabilities.

It is all about delegation.  We must look to God to give us wisdom.  We must use that wisdom to train others.  Then, we must allow those others to make decisions by empowering them to be leaders.

If you want your business to grow, you must be in the business of training leaders.  You must train those leaders to trust in God and follow Him first.  Then, you will have a powerful group of leaders growing your business and impacting the world for Christ.

Listen now to me and I will give you some advice, and may God be with you. You must be the people’s representative before God and bring their disputes to him. Exodus 18:19
