Let’s be honest: most goals fall apart by February.
But when you’re a Christian entrepreneur, goal setting isn’t just about getting things done—it’s about stepping into the purpose God has for you. That means prayer, focus, and practical steps, not a long list of unrealistic resolutions.
Here’s a simple 3-step process to setting goals that actually work—goals that align with your calling and keep you moving forward.
1. Focus on ONE Goal at a Time
Ever write down 7 goals and crush exactly… none of them?
Yeah. Me too.
Too many goals lead to mental clutter and burnout. The key is to focus on just one goal and turn it into a habit. That’s when the real momentum begins.
Start by praying. Ask God what area He wants you to focus on this season.
Pick one goal. Stick to it until it becomes part of your routine.
Example:
Let’s say you want to:
- Lose weight
- Make more money
- Take a vacation
That’s three solid goals—but pick one. If you start with weight loss, build habits around it:
- Drink more water
- Move your body daily
- Cut sugar
One goal. One focus. That’s how transformation starts.
2. Break Your Goal Down Into Bite-Sized Steps
I’m not advocating elephant snacks here, but the old saying works:
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.”
Once you have your ONE goal, break it down into small, doable steps.
Example: Going to the Gym
- Find a gym near you
- Book a free intro session
- Add 2–3 workouts to your calendar
Example: Home Fitness Routine
- Set up a space at home
- Choose a workout plan (YouTube, App, etc.)
- Buy any basics (mat, weights, resistance bands)
Knock out those first steps in a week, and guess what? You’ve built momentum. That sense of accomplishment fuels your consistency.
3. Take Action (and Make It Easy)
Now that your goal is focused and broken down—it’s go time.
But don’t rely on willpower alone.
Make action easy:
- Prep meals ahead if your goal is eating healthy
- Lay out gym clothes the night before
- Set alarms and reminders
- Get a buddy or coach to keep you accountable
Routines build habits.
Habits shape your life.
When it shifts from “I have to” to “This is just what I do,” that’s when goals become part of who you are.
Final Thoughts: Partnering with God in Goal-Setting
God wants you to succeed—not just for your own gain, but so you can serve others and reflect His glory through your business.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.”
— Proverbs 16:3
So here’s the recap:
- Pray over your goals
- Focus on ONE goal at a time
- Break it into small steps
- Take action and create routine
You’re not behind. You’re not too late.
You’re just one focused, God-honoring goal away from momentum.
Now go set that goal—and let’s build a business that reflects your faith in every step.
