Today I want to focus on a word that shows up in the King James Version.  It reads, “edify one another.”

I love the word “edify” and I don’t think we use it enough today.  We have a society that has a loss of self-esteem.  There way too times when people feel let down and put down by those closest to them.

Imagine what would happen if we were to live out this verse.  What if we were to build others up and encourage them?  What if we were to edify one another continually?

If we follow this passage from the top of the chapter we see how the people of Paul’s day were distracted by end times much like today.  He simply tells them to be aware and live a life worthy of the calling of Christ so they need not worry about end times.

Then, he talks about how we live as children of light, sober and putting on faith and love as protection and salvation to protect our minds.  He lays out a wonderful way of living the Christian life.

He then brings us back to the central point of our salvation through Christ and tells us to spread the light of God to the whole world through our words and actions.

As Christian business owners, there are many times that people we work with mess up.  We can take those moments to correct, and indeed we must.  Yet, what if we also took those moments to build others up.

Instead of saying, “Look what you did wrong.”  What if we said things like, “Hey, look what you learned.  You are created by a God that loves you and I know you will do better.” It is these simple nuances that make the world a better place.

God called you into business and He wants you to make an amazing impact in the lives of others.  Paul shows us in this verse how to do that.  We are to not worry about the end times because we know our salvation is secure and eternal.  Then, we are to use our faith to encourage others and build them up.

If you learn to edify those around you.  You will become the influence that God wants you to be.  Your family will be closer.  Your business will be stronger. And your faith will be powerful.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. I Thessalonians 5:11
