Let’s talk about something that makes some Christians squirm and others sprint: wealth.
But not the flashy, “look at me” kind of wealth.
We’re talking about biblical wealth—the kind built on diligence, integrity, and a deep trust in God’s timing.
The book of Proverbs is packed with wisdom on money, and if we actually followed it, most of us would be in a very different place financially.
Here’s a starting point:
“Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.”
— Proverbs 10:4
Let’s break that down.
1. Work Matters More Than Wishing
There’s no shortcut to lasting wealth. Proverbs reminds us again and again: laziness leads to lack, but diligence leads to blessing.
The Hebrew word for “diligent” means to cut or sharpen—like you’re carving out a path with purpose.
So ask yourself:
- What do I need to cut out of my life to stay focused?
- What can I sharpen in my skillset, systems, or spiritual life?
Diligence doesn’t mean hustle for hustle’s sake. It means making wise, intentional decisions—daily.
2. Timing Is Everything
“He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.”
— Proverbs 10:5
Know your season. Don’t scroll through someone else’s harvest while you’re sleeping through your own.
God gives each of us a window—an opportunity—to grow, build, and bless. Wealth-building isn’t just about working hard. It’s about working at the right time, in the right field.
Keep your eyes open. There’s opportunity in front of you, but it may require getting up earlier, risking something, or stepping outside your comfort zone.
3. God’s Blessing Doesn’t Equal Burnout
“The blessing of the Lord brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”
— Proverbs 10:22
Read that again.
God doesn’t bless us through burnout. He blesses us through obedience. Yes, hard work is biblical. But so is rest, margin, and wise stewardship.
When we try to grind it all out ourselves, we miss the grace of God working in the background.
Wealth God’s way comes with peace, not panic.
4. Value = Wealth
Here’s the simple truth behind biblical business:
You get paid for the value you add to the world.
Solve a real problem. Help real people. Keep your integrity intact while you do it.
That’s wealth with purpose.
Final Thought
Wealth isn’t a dirty word in the Bible. It’s a tool. A blessing. And a responsibility.
God calls us to be faithful stewards, not just of our money—but of our mindset, our mission, and our moments.
So go ahead—build wealth.
But do it with diligence. Do it with prayer.
Do it with a heart set on serving and a mind sharpened by wisdom.
That’s how you build something that lasts—and honors the One who gave it to you.
