Hebrews is written to a Jewish audience. As Paul is ending his letter, he makes sure to cover all the bases he may have forgotten. It’s practical and simple.

He starts by reminding us to ‘keep on loving one another as brothers and sisters.’  He wants us to keep in mind we are all part of God’s family because each of us is a child of God.  Next, he tells us to show hospitality to strangers and not to forget those who are in prison.

In verse 4, Paul shifts to more personal relationships.  He tells us to honor marriage and keep away from sexual immorality.  Then, he jumps right into money and tells us not to love money, but be content with what God has given us.

Again there is a shift in verse 7 where he jumps to religion.  He talks about strange teachings, high priests and sacrifice.  The Jewish audience would have perked up here as Paul puts Jesus in with the high priests and sacrifices.

One more shift happens as he talks about having a continual sacrifice of praise to God.  He tells us to do good and share with others.  We are to respect those in authority and pray for those doing the work of God.

Paul wants to make sure he leaves his readers with a lot of wisdom to think about.  He ends by honoring what Jesus did for us on the cross.  He says we are equipped to do the work God gave us and we are to please him.

Everything we do in business should bring honor to God.  It starts with the way we treat others and the way we honor our family.  Our relationship with money should not be out of proportion to our relationship with God.  We are to glorify Him with our money, our actions and our praise. Have you ever thought about your work as a praise to God?

We are to glorify Him and raise Him up.  God has equipped you with everything good and if you focus on the good things God has given you, the ways of this world and the pull of sin will have a lot less influence on your life and your business.

Remember what God did for you.  As the God of peace, He created an eternal covenant with you by bringing Jesus back to life so He could be our shepherd.  We are children of God and He calls us to do His will and be his face on this earth.

May God equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Hebrews 13:21
