When our business is going through tough times, we often focus on what is happening.  We get caught up in the moment and fail to see the situation entirely.  When we learn to see from a new perspective, what we are going through may not seem so bad.  It may even disappear.

Changing our focus

When race horses go into a heated race, the owners put blinders on the sides of the horses face.  They do this so the horses can focus on the goal rather than being distracted by the other horses, riders and all the other things they run by.  It is a good thing to do for horses and if we were smart, we would put our focus on the goal rather than the situation.

When we are right in the middle of a situation, we can’t always see past your problem.  I used to tell classes I taught to put their thumb up in front of their face.  I told them to put their thumb in front of me.  Then I would as, “Is you thumb bigger than me?”

We all know that our thumb is not bigger than a person, but when it is right in front of our face, it looks so big.  I equate that to God.  We are so focused on our problem that is right in front of us that we miss a powerful God standing right there to help us out.

Changing perspective

Changing the way we look at situations can be tough, but when we are in the middle of a crisis, it is important to shift our thinking.  We must step away from your problem and focus on the goal.  Then, once we see our problems in terms of the whole scheme of life, it might not be as bad as you think.  Sometimes we just need a good nights rest and a quiet meal with family to get our minds recharged and refocused.

There is an old saying, “I complained about the shoes that I was wearing until I met the man with no feet.”  There is always someone worse than you.  If you have food to eat and a roof over your head, you are rich.  You have been blessed.  Focus on your blessings.

We can’t focus on blessings and still take time to wallow in the problems that come up in life.  We must choose to focus on what God has done, is doing and will do in our lives.  As Christian business owners, we must learn to let God be God.  Then, we can take care of whatever comes along.

Psalm 46: 1-3  “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and mountains quake and with their surging.”
