Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come. Psalm 71:18

In this Psalm we see David crying out to God.  He reminds himself that God is his refuge (vs. 1), his hope (vs. 5) and righteousness (vs. 19).  Yet in the middle of all of this praising, he takes time to remind God that bad things are happening in his life.

It is kind of funny to think about.  David is telling God how great God is and then on the side ‘reminds’ God about the circumstance he is going through.  It is as if he thinks God forgot about the circumstances he is going through in his life.

Do you ever feel like that?  You feel like God has forgotten your troubles.  We all have moments of doubt. Yet, in the middle of the doubt we must remind ourselves about who God is.  God is our hope and our refuge.  He is sovereign and knows everything we are going through.

In our focus verse David is telling God that he will keep the path.  He will keep moving forward and stay the course.  He will continue to use his influence to tell others about God and he knows that God will restore his life, honor and comfort. (vs. 21)

As I work with more and more Christian entrepreneurs, I hear all the excuses people use to keep from serving God whole-heartedly.  They say they are too young or too old.  They mention their circumstances or their lack of money.

It is here that I boldly remind them about who God is.  He is bigger than any circumstance or any situation.  God is by our side and if He has called us into business, which He has, He will provide for us no matter what the circumstances.

I know we all go through tough times.  Yet, it is here that we must stay the course.  We must stay true to who God is in our lives and who we were created to be in this world.  Remember it is not about how big our circumstances are, it is about how big our God is.

I love how David ends the Psalm.  After complaining about his circumstances and reminding God not to forget about him, he starts to praise. Circumstances become a distraction when we take our mind off of our purpose.  We must focus on a righteous God.  He gives us the strength to carry on and allows us to fight the good fight.

Read Psalm 71 for yourself.  It is great to see how David is looking at life and even in the midst of tough times, he reminds himself about God’s faithfulness and takes time to praise God.  Take time to remember all that God has done for you and praise Him even more in tough times.
